  • Original Garage Recording with overdubs

In 1998 while living in Auckland, I was reading a great deal of science fiction from the 50s through to the 70s to explore all lesser known but extremely influential authors of the time. Much of my '98 reading list was dominated by the work of Philip K. Dick, and The Broken Bubble, a non-SF work, inspired this song about a young man entering a relationship with an older woman. While details of the novel are in no way represented in the song, I instead attempted to invoke the feelings that were in the character at some point during the middle of the story. I also had a collection of short-stories in my bedroom which contained 'Snow' by John Crowley, and the intro passages - the plucking of notes across distorted guitar strings - made me think of snow, so was aptly titled so.

I have a tendency to sing the "It's not enough to see" and "It's too much to see" lyrics in the wrong places, have pretty much always done this.

The guitar solo on this recording is one of my favourite improvised solos.

Snow

It’s high enough to breathe
Let your hair down don’t turn around.
If you want to speak
Set your sights on my learning ground.
(If) there’s one thing you need
Whisper to me I’ll burn for you,
It’s hot enough to keep.

It’s too much to see
All I once believed,
If it all comes true
What’s left to see me through?

It’s not enough to see
What is invisible to me.
I don’t wanna leave
Drive you home with my trembling knees.
Out in the night
Shadows hang on for their dear lives
Inside we lie
Between the sheets of another time.

It’s high enough to breathe
Let your hair down don’t turn around.
If you want to speak
Set your sights on my learning ground.
(If) there’s one thing you need
Whisper to me I’ll burn for you,
It’s hot enough to keep
As I lay you down to sleep.
