Opalentia

This piece was written in traditional Sonata Form, but may appear truncated here or during my own play-through. Repeats in Sonata Form have mostly been optional to 20th C. conductors, and so it should remain here in this piece. The truncated version simply chops the second repeat in half so that the main theme is only repeated once throughout the A section.

I wrote this piece near the start, or around the first half, of 2012. I remember using it as an example of chromatic writing in one of my music classes while teaching at Whangamata Area School. It is, as can be seen by the score, unfinished as far as surrounding instrumentation or harmony orchestration is concerned. And when I say orchestration, I don't just mean of an orchestra, but in general terms: any kind of band - orchestra or rock.

The score has been written on Sibelius. A score was started on, or imported into, Guitar Pro, but the file was messed up severely.
